The Check



This post is mainly going to act as a checklist to have an idea of the key points to remember as we design the product to create the best possible design that caters to a large number of elderly people allowing the reach of our project to be tremendous.
The following are the criteria we are attempting to fulfill:
  • The product should inform the user of obstacles and not detect only falling motions: as most of the products yet do a detection after a fall, we want to build something that detects the obstacle before the fall
  • Should be highly accurate as even a slight change in level can cause a huge accident: accuracy shouldn't be compromised
  • Should be light and small so that it isn't a hassle to carry around: Elderly may get irritated and might have some resistance if the device is uncomfortable to use
  • Should also be well-positioned for both comfort and accuracy: Whether wore on legs, hands, neck, or stomach, it should be comfortable
  • The product should not cause any irritation or discomfort as it will likely be used for long hours together
  • The battery should be long-lasting whilst not being harmful
  • Since we are trying to make a grassroots level solution, it should be cheap and cost-effective: Most of the other products which cater to similar needs have prices getting jaw-dropping reactions. Too costly. We would like to have a cost-effective solution
  • The product shouldn't have a counter effect when taken off, meaning that the product should only aid in detection and not cause the user to be careless about it later
