Comprehension

In this post, we will talk about what we understand from our cause and the context around it.

Our key insight is that there are various causes that range from eyesight problems or inadequate current norms like the bifocal spectacles to lack of balance or a deteriorating reaction time. Furthermore, for people with preexisting conditions like diabetes, this navigational issue proves to be a fatal threat.

We also took to the streets to find the various types of obstacles that the elderly may face and classified them into groups based on height, we then started sketching a variety of design ideas and grouped them into clusters.

Low-Lying

Irregular Height changes

Hard to Notice Step

Undone Roads and footpaths

Mid-Range
Bricks and other objects on footpaths

Bases of poles

Irregular constructions and stairs

Protruding Pipes

High-Levels

Trees that bend into the footpath

Poles or Stumps on the road

We also looked at several other obstacles for which we have attached the drive link

After this, we interviewed around 10 elderly people and gained the following key insights from the interviews

KEY INSIGHTS FROM AN INTERVIEW :)

As we spent some time researching possible solutions to our cause, we found that many solutions have key insights and learnings mentioned in our Context. However, many solutions cater to when the fall is happening and not how to prevent falls from happening. Making our cause a valid and unique one.

The following was also made clear because of our user-interviews. We also realize that we can't replace key accessories like the elderly's spectacles as they won't like such a solution. We have to also make sure that the solution we come up with is light and doesn't take a lot of space. Our product should also be something that can be worn throughout the day and is comfortable in that manner.
